Why is there a lag during Page Zooming, Page Panning or Guidelines cannot keep up with cursor?

If you are using an older computer, especially a laptop, it's possible to see a lag in
page performance. This is caused by the older, slower GPU (graphics card).

TradeTek's performance will directly correlate with the performance of the computer that
it's running on.

These issues can slow graphics performance on an older or entry level computer:

- Slow GPU or limited Video RAM
- Multiple Monitors
- Large plan page sizes

On Windows, follow this procedure to check the GPU or Video RAM of your computer.

* Click the Start button, then Settings, System, Display, Advanced Display, Display Adapter Properties
* Business computers often use the same CPU and RAM to also perform graphics since speed is not important.
* Computers for Gaming, CAD or Engineering (TradeTek) use a dedicated GPU and Video RAM

When using an older or business level computer, launch TradeTek and open your Preferences dialog.
Set the Slow Graphics Compatible checkbox, which may help improve performance on older computers.

If your computer has a GPU and graphics still seem slow try these potential solutions:

1. Disconnect and reconnect your HDMI cable to ensure a good connection.
2. Try a different HDMI port. If your computer has two HDMI ports, one may have a GPU and the other doesn't.
3. From the control panel, update the display driver.

Can my old computer run TradeTek?

In general, new computers have faster processors, have multi-core CPU, more RAM, solid state
hard drives and faster graphics cards.

All these hardware characteristics will affect the performance of various TradeTek features.
On an old computer, with slow graphics processor or limited video RAM, set the Show Graphics
Compatible checkbox in your TradeTek Preferences dialog.

See the System Requirements webpage for current and more complete requirements.

Which takeoff software can handle large projects without slowing down?

TradeTek can handle the largest takeoffs without a drop in software performance.

What takeoff & estimating software will run faster on a computer with a faster processor?

TradeTek is designed to take advantage of faster CPU's with multiple cores and faster GPU's.

What are the computer system requirements for TradeTek?

TradeTek is designed to take full advantage of your computer's processor and graphics card
capabilities. Software performance will be directly affected by both the processor and
graphics card.

Will mounted cloud drives or a VPN affect the performance of my computer or TradeTek?

Data sent through the Internet will be 50% or more slower when using a VPN.
A Cloud drive mounted to your computer may severely slow down the performance of your computer.

Your VPN provider may offer options like a closer server or one with less traffic to reduce the performance loss.
The VPN may allow access to external cloud drives using a mounted volume conceptually similar to inserting a USB flash drive.
Depending on the VPN configuration, the computer may run dramatically slower when an external Cloud drive is mounted.
The impact on large engineering applications like AutoCad or TradeTek could be severe. Try unmounting the Cloud drive.

The availability or speed of your Internet will generally have little affect on the performance of TradeTek.
TradeTek uses the Internet once a month to check your subscription or when viewing the Store and Help panels.
TradeTek may use the Internet to implement Setup and Portal dialogs related to TradeTek Shared or TradeTek Cloud.
